MAP Embassy Racing at Donington Park

Daytona 675 rider Glen Richards maintained his record of finishing in the top two of every British supersport championship round this season to extend his points advantage at a blustery Donington Park yesterday.

The Australian, who rides for the MAP Embassy squad, qualified his Triumph third on the grid, bested only by world championship regulars Andrew Pitt and Jonathan Rea, who were using the Donington round to gather data ahead of September’s world race at the same venue. The Triumph man stuck with the Ten Kate-tuned Hondas in the opening laps but eventually crossed the line fourth, behind the Rea, Pitt and Suzuki rider Ian Lowry. When the Hondas were later excluded for a fuel infringement, Richards was promoted to second place. With main title rival Hudson Kennaugh crashing out, Glen’s 20 points moves him onto a total of 85, 20 clear of second-placed Steve Brogan on a Honda.

Triumph had two other top ten finishers at the Leicestershire Grand Prix circuit, with Team Buff’s Rob Frost classified seventh and Richards’ team-mate Paul Young ninth following the post-race exclusions.

Young South African AJ Venter gave the MAP Embassy squad yet another podium with third in a close Junior Superstock race. The Triumph man started on pole and set the fastest lap of the race, only to miss out on the win by less than two tenths of a second.
