Thanks to Mandy for having some initiative and bringing an easter egg for the the first person to arrive, although at 9:15am Mandy and I were still alone, I was beginning to worry, I must say!!
We got off to a later start than I would have preffered, but made good time. We were limited to 60mph as Fireman Barry is running in his Bonny and this set the pace for the day. We travelled down the A15 to Nocton then through to Metheringham and the Kymes to meet up with Mick and Diana at Algakirk, where we had a loo stop for the older ones in the group and then made our way to the next meeting point, Kings Lynn where we met with David. David took over the lead from there, so I could experience the feeling of last man charlie position and then the riding in the middle of a bunch position. Very interesting I found, riding in a group in different positions. The front man is always looking to enure he has every one, last man charlie is always playing catch up and therefore has the opportunity to have some fun and the position of riding in the centre of the group felt comfortable just bimbling along!!
We arrived in Hunstanton with the group all intact and parked on the front by the Pier. Some of the group I think tactically, failed to see the parking attendant and therefore got free parking. As he was stood directly behind my bike I had little choice but to pay the £1 fee!!! We split up into small groups and went to buy our lunch of choice, some had fish and chips, me and david being a healthy pair of chaps went for salad in a lovely little restaurant. We then met up at 2:00pm for the treat of the day, me getting my wallet out and treating the guys to an ice cream!
We proceeded back to the parked bikes to have our picture taken with the RAT Banner, a mission we must must do on all runs in future, I think.
So ice creams in hand, sun well and truly out and banner in place, the camera started clicking! Not up to the professional quality of Mandy but I hope they are ok! It didn't take long before cries of "can I eat my ice cream now!!!" echoed around the pier as the hot sun had started to take its toll and reminding me of days out with the kids when they were younger, ice cream had started to drip down the cones and onto sticky hands! "Oh go on then" I said!
So full bellies and ice cream desserts to boot, we looked at the map to find our next watering hole. Wells next the sea was favoured and so we saddled up and enjoyed the sights of the loveley little coastal villages in North Norfolk with their quaint pubs and thatched cottages. I was riding along thinking to myself what a nice bunch of people I was riding with and this is exactly the reason I wanted to ride a bike and join R.A.T.
We pulled into Wells next the Sea and decided this is the place to stop. I came across one of those shops that sold everything and soon found myself asking other questions like ......What use could I find for a screw driver that doubled as a knife and fork and torch? Did I need to buy the camo paint that I was looking at? ...you know the sort of place!!
So with a short break and the group back to full numbers we set off back to our various starting points. A good day had been had by all...although some had covered a lot more miles than others !!!!
