September takes us out to the Ardennes in Belgium for our second overseas trip and third four-day trip of the year. Should be a cracker. Then in October, in order to save our marriages we will be running a weekend trip with the wives - destination unknown at this time.
Latest News:
The Rochdale R.A.T. riders were up bright and early on a sunny July Sunday morning to beat the traffic on the run to Whitby on the East Coast. Mat opened the doors for 7:00am and put the coffee on which was a welcome sight for those who had been on late night parties.
The roads over the Pennines through Skipton and onto the North Yorkshire Moors were very quite and good time was made over to Whitby, and fish and chips.
A stroll around the harbour and up to the Abbey was made before setting off down the coast towards Scarborough then into the countryside via Sledmere and Fridaythorpe. An afternoon snack was taken at the Bikers cafe in Fridaythorpe and then we proceeded back into Rochdale through the Vale of York and Blackstone Edge Moor.
The weather was at its best throughout the day and everyone enjoyed the scenic routes. An end of run refreshing pint was enjoyed at the Fishermans Inn at Hollingworth Lake (Rochdale's bike meeting place) at everyone went their own seperate way.
August had the group heading south to Shropshire for the Industrial Heritage Run. The forecast was for isolated showers with sunny spells. At the start it was one isolated shower over the whole of the North West.
The route took us along the South bank of the Manchester Ship Canal towards Lymm where we picked up Chris and his Daytona and then south through Nantwich and Market Drayton where we were joined by Paul and his Tiger.
After a bacon butty in Market Drayton we headed over the B roads to Ironbridge and paid visits to the first Iron bridge, Coalport potteries and barge lift and then Abraham Derby's blast furnace which triggered off the Industrial Revolution.
The route home took us via Shrewsbury and Whitchurch then onto the Anderton Liftin Cheshire, up towards Warrington and along the North side of the Ship Canal and back into Rochdale.
Thankfully the weather brightened up from late morning with only a few showers as per the forecast and an enjoyable rideout was had by all.
