Hello to all the Glasgow R.A.T.’s!
The first ride out of 2006 took place on Sunday 26th March. Despite the weather, clocks changing and mothers day 19 hardy individuals turned up for a leisurely jaunt to Callendar via Aberfoyle. Many thanks to all who turned up! We left the dealership at 10:00am and headed over the Erskine Bridge to Balloch and then on to Aberfoyle. By this stage we were all well and truly soaked so we stopped for a coffee in the woolen centre. Before the stories got to wild we departed for Callendar, half of us going by the main road and the other half, heroes, all decided to tackle the infamous Dukes pass! A hairy road at the best of times due to the blind corners and large amounts of gravel on the road it was made even more treacherous by the six inches of snow at either side. Due to the tremendous skill from all, the pass was passed without any incident other than a few trouser filling skids and twitches! Lunch was had in a friendly pub before we headed home via Milngavie to dry off all our gear before the next adventure!
The second ride out took place on Sunday the 30th April. 26 R.A.T. members departed MCS for the trip to East fortune air museum to pay a visit to Concorde. Having left MCS we headed up past the Carbeth inn toward Stirling. After about 20 miles it was discovered that Bill (dealer principle) had gotten himself, the mechanic and our support vehicle lost! Numerous phone calls were made and a rendezvous was set up for Stirling services. The M90 was taken to Edinburgh then the A1 to East fortune. Having arrived safely the weather decided to go from warm sunshine to cold and overcast. After several cups of coffee, soup and cheese toasties we had a wander around the air museum and enjoyed the classic vehicle rally which was also on that day. The sun made reappearance and the journey home was made. Happily there were no spills or breakdowns and all made it home safely!
